2021 NAHJ Student Projects

2021 NAHJ Student Projects

The NAHJ Student Project gives college students an opportunity to gain valuable experience in a newsroom setting. Under the guidance of professional mentors, students will write, report, shoot and edit video, shoot photos, and cover events on social media, all to develop skills to prepare them to compete in a challenging media market. This year, the Student Project will again be held virtually and, as always, NAHJ students will produce stories for the Latino Reporter Digital.

In the spring, the mentors will lead a virtual bootcamp to prepare students for their newsroom work during the national conference. Mentors will identify the skills each student brings as well as areas they can develop before they begin their reporting in the summer.

The week-long newsroom will be held via NAHJ’s secure Zoom channel July 11 – 18, 2021. Participants who are accepted into the Student Project must be available and off from work the entire week, just as they would be if the conference were held in person.
