EDU Interns
Provide assistance to NAHJ Academic Task Force conducting research by collecting and arranging data, developing source materials, summarizing reports, coordinating interviews or other meetings with participants, and any other tasks relevant to the Task Force’s projects.

Julia Blumberg
is a Bilingual Journalism & Latin American Studies dual degree MA candidate at the University of Arizona as well as a Spanish Teaching Assistant. Ms. Blumberg received her BA from High Point University (2019), majoring in International Relations and Spanish with minors in Latin American Studies and History. She also studied in Madrid (Universidad de Nebrija) which afforded an even greater understanding of Spain and its politics. She was Co-Director of the Donald W. Carson High School Journalism Diversity Workshop for Arizona High School Students, in which she had the opportunity to teach students from across Arizona about multimedia, photography, audio storytelling, and more. She recently has been honored with two awards from the University of Arizona’s School of Journalism – Excellence in Research and Outstanding Graduate Student Award.Â

Vanessa Lucero
earned a B.A. in Media Studies with a concentration in journalism at the City University of New York, Hunter College. Born and raised in New York, she is continuing her education in the School of Journalism at the University of Arizona in pursuit of an M.A. in Bilingual Journalism. Lucero wrote for The Envoy and The Athenian. Her writing was featured on Dateline: CUNY, which showcases the best journalistic pieces of undergraduate students at the City University of New York. Her interests revolve around the social and political issues surrounding the Latinx community. Lucero’s interests also include audio production and investigative journalism. She is a member of the National Association of Hispanic Journalists, where she served as the activities coordinator for the UA student chapter her first year and was recently appointed to serve as President. Lucero was a reporter for the Arts & Life desk at the Daily Wildcat.Â
NAHJ Interns/Fellow
- Assist staff in the creation of reports / research
- Actively promote association membership through calls and events
- Assist in maintaining office resources
- Assist in the coordination and organization of NAHJ National and Chapter events in conjunction with the Executive Director and Chapter Leaders
- Assist in the promotion of national conference and virtual events
- Assist in maintaining current membership listing with current and potential members
- Assist with the development of membership reports and targeted campaigns

Valeria González Montero
Valeria González Montero is from Utuado, Puerto Rico and is currently a master’s student at the Philip Merrill College of Journalism at the University of Maryland. She earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of Puerto Rico, RÃo Piedras Campus in Journalism and Human Resources Management. During her time at Merrill she has gained significant broadcast and digital journalism experience. Her career goal is to become a sports reporter, specifically motorsports and Formula 1.

Victoria Valenzuela
Victoria Valenzuela is a graduate student at the University of Southern California, where she is a reporter and investigations editor for the Daily Trojan. She has served on the NAHJ student committee for two years and is currently president of the Wrongful Convictions Club USC. Valenzuela has interned at BuzzFeed News and is currently the Los Angeles Bureau Chief at ScheerPost.Â

Jorge Flores
Jorge Flores was born and raised in Monterrey, Mexico. After emigrating to the United States, his interest in communications became a passion that motivated him to work as the President of the NAHJ California State University Fullerton Chapter and later on, as the Student Representative of the organization. He is currently majoring in Political Science with a minor in Journalism. He has worked for Al Dia, CSUF multi-award bilingual broadcast show and as an anchor for their very own, Titan TV. Today, he interns at NBCU Telemundo.

Anthony Albidrez
Born and raised in southern New Mexico, Anthony Albidrez is pursuing a Master of Arts in journalism at the University of Colorado Boulder. Trained in newspaper journalism and having a byline in southwest newspapers since he was 15 years old, Anthony plans to focus on regional and local environmental justice issues and photojournalism after he completes his graduate program in May 2023. Anthony lives in Boulder, Colorado with his husband, Charlie, and enjoys spending time with their two dogs and cat, who thinks she’s a dog.

Lupita Balcazar
Lupita Balcazar is a junior at Cal State University Northridge majoring in Broadcast Journalism with a minor in Spanish language journalism. As a first-generation student, she aspires to be a bilingual journalist and one day work for a Spanish network. Lupita’s end goal is to inspire future generations that anything is possible when you are determined to work for your goals.Â

MarÃa Marta Guzmán
MarÃa Marta Guzmán is a Senior at DePaul University majoring in Journalism and double minoring in Spanish and Latin America & Latino Studies. She is the co-founder and president of NAHJ DePaul. MarÃa also helped launch Chicago’s first Spanish student newspaper, La DePaulia. Upon graduating, MarÃa will be going into broadcast journalism as an on-air reporter. She serves as the event coordinator for the NAHJ Student Committee.

Claudia Robles
Claudia Robles is a proud first-generation college Latina- born and raised in Los Angeles, California. Growing-up with two hard-working immigrant parents helped her to understand at a young age that education is vilely important. Her parents raised my siblings and I in latino-community based neighborhoods. Journalism is more than a hobby, it’s Claudia’s passion that comes from the heart of understanding  people’s why’s of life. She began her career in KUSI-TV in San Diego, CA. Later on, she became editor and published her work for the City Times and The Legend Magazine.
