Washington, D.C. – The NAHJ Board of Directors has appointed Yaneth Guillen-Diaz as Interim Chief Operations Officer. Guillen-Diaz is the longest-serving staff member of NAHJ, and possesses deep institutional knowledge and experience executing NAHJ’s mission. For more than 20 years, she has worked closely to provide training and support for our members across the hemisphere and is committed to ensuring NAHJ’s success.
Most recently, Guillen-Diaz has served as NAHJ’s Senior Director of Training & Membership, designing, planning, and implementing training programs for professional members, and establishing relationships with partners to create additional training opportunities. In this role, she has overseen more than 20 professional chapters, providing them with training, management, and has developed programs to expand the organization’s membership.
“There is no one more deeply committed to the NAHJ’s mission and vision than Yaneth,” said NAHJ President Yvette Cabrera. “I’m so pleased she has stepped up during this transition period to help the organization move forward.”
Guillen-Diaz holds a bachelor’s degree in arts in Media and Communications from the University of the District of Columbia. She currently lives in University Park, Maryland., where she and her husband of 17 years are raising their three children Isabella, Benjamin, and David Jr.
The National Association of Hispanic Journalists is also announcing the resignation of its Executive Director David Peña Jr. He has served in that role since Feb. 2022, and during his tenure, Peña Jr. led the organization through a period of significant growth and change. He has also been a tireless advocate for NAHJ’s members, and his work has strengthened the organization’s position as a leading voice in the fight for diversity and inclusion in the news.
“David has been a tremendous asset to NAHJ,” Cabrera said. “We are grateful for his dedicated service to the organization, and we wish him all the best in his future endeavors.”
Guillen-Diaz will assume the managerial responsibilities for the upcoming National Association of Hispanic Journalists International Training Convention and Expo in Miami. This is a signature event for NAHJ and we’re committed to ensuring its success for everyone.
