August 18, 2025 – The National Association of Hispanic Journalists is thrilled to congratulate Nathan Gonzalez, a rising junior at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, on being selected as this year’s NAHJ White House Correspondents’ Scholarship recipient.

Nathan’s journey is a testament to resilience and determination. Although he applied for this scholarship last year and was not selected, he returned this year with a stronger application and earned the distinction of being our 2025 recipient. His dedication exemplifies the kind of persistence and passion we strive to celebrate and support at NAHJ.

The NAHJ White House Correspondents’ Scholarship, established in partnership with the White House Correspondents’ Association (WHCA), aims to diversify the pool of journalists covering the White House. It is awarded to students who are pursuing careers in journalism and are committed to political reporting. Recipients of this prestigious award not only receive financial support but are also paired with a professional mentor—an experienced journalist currently covering the White House.

This year, Nathan will be mentored by José Del Pino, NAHJ member and White House and Washington, D.C. Correspondent for NTN24 and Canal 13 (Chile), where he serves as Senior U.S. Correspondent.

In addition to the scholarship, recipients are invited to attend the annual WHCA dinner in Washington, D.C., participate in a scholarship luncheon the day prior, and connect with industry leaders and fellow journalists.

Since its inception, the WHCA has provided over $1.7 million in scholarships, funded through proceeds from the annual White House Correspondents’ Dinner and tax-deductible contributions to the association.

“As a Hispanic student aspiring to be a TV news reporter and producer, this scholarship eases the financial burden of my journalism degree and motivates me to continue pushing for diversity in newsrooms—regardless of what others may say,” Nathan said when he learned he had been selected. “It also fuels my passion for political journalism and storytelling, as I work toward making a meaningful impact in the television media industry.”

Please join us in celebrating Nathan’s achievement and continued commitment to journalism excellence.
