She previously worked as a staff writer for the Miami Herald and the St. Paul Pioneer Press. A native of Amherst\, Mass.\, she graduated with a history degree from Macalester College in St. Paul. \n\nIvette Franco\nMultimedia Journalist & Fact-Checker\nIvette Franco is a multimedia journalist\, fact-checker\, and board member of the South Florida chapter of the National Association of Hispanic Journalists (NAHJ). In 2022\, she was selected by FIU as a fellow correspondent to cover political issues in Washington\, D.C. She currently fact-checks political debates\, as well as topics related to the economy\, health\, and scams\, and has served as a fact-checker reporting on midterm elections and State of the Union speeches for elDetector. \nFranco has also contributed to discussions on combating misinformation through her participation in panels at the NAHJ conference. \nBefore her career in communication\, Franco built a strong background in business\, specializing in strategic negotiations and supply chain management for one of the largest quick-service restaurant (QSR) chains in the world.
