With the #NABJNAHJ20 virtual conference locked in, NAHJ will revisit 2020 Board Election during COVID-19
Washington, D.C. – On April 16, the national board of directors of the National Association of Hispanic Journalists (NAHJ) shared the postponement of one election cycle in the wake of an ongoing national crisis. Additionally, the indecision concerning this year’s annual gathering created an obsolete timeline as per the current association bylaws.
With the #NABJNAHJ20 virtual conference locked in, (NAHJ) can now revisit the 2020 board election.
As previously stated, the national board of directors shared the postponement of one election cycle in the wake of an ongoing national health crisis. While NAHJ looks forward to pioneering a virtual national convention, the focus and resources to execute a quality convening are tremendous.
In 1984, NAHJ co-founders could never have predicted a national crisis that threatens disruption to what is a solid financial and professional standing of the association. The coronavirus pandemic brought many issues to light with the present bylaws, and the current NAHJ leadership must match an unprecedented time with an unparalleled focus. It is imperative to prioritize the use of existing resources to bring the organization up to present times.
Further board discussions over the next weeks will ensure that the NAHJ leadership makes decisions that are in the best interest of the association’s future. Factors such as finances and capacity remain the top priorities to evaluate.
As always, board members give of their time — even in the midst of a crisis — to ensure the organization’s longevity. We look forward to doing all we can to continue to strengthen our association for the next generation of diverse storytellers.
