Tino Duran earned a bachelor’s degree in political science and a master’s degree in public administration from St. Mary’s University in San Antonio. He worked as the general manager of El Sol de Tejas, in Dallas and then president and CEO of El Informador Hispaño in Fort Worth.
With his wife Amelia Duran in 1989, they re-opened La Prensa de San Antonio focused on building community through the newspaper. Tino often referenced La Prensa as ‘the source of positive news for the city’s Latino population.’ Additionally, he concentrated his energy and time on the next generation of Hispanic journalists with mentorship.
In 2014, Duran was honored by his peers in the Texas newspaper industry by his induction into the Texas Newspaper Hall of Fame.
NAHJ will remember Tino at this year’s upcoming National Convention in Anaheim, California. He was eighty-two years old.
