July 7, 2025 – The National Association of Hispanic Journalists (NAHJ) is proud to announce the appointment of Patricia Guadalupe and Rodrigo Cervantes as the new co-managing editors of palabra, NAHJ’s award-winning multimedia platform dedicated to stories that elevate the voices, experiences, and perspectives of the Latino community.
As seasoned journalists with deep personal ties to palabra and NAHJ’s mission, Guadalupe and Cervantes bring complementary experience, vision, and leadership to guide the platform’s next chapter.
“We are thrilled to welcome Patricia and Rodrigo into these important roles,” said NAHJ Executive Director Yaneth Guillén-Díaz.. “Their collaborative approach and passion for uplifting underrepresented voices will be instrumental in advancing palabra’s mission and impact.”
Patricia Guadalupe, based in Washington, D.C., is a veteran bilingual journalist with decades of experience covering politics, policy, and Latino affairs. Her reporting has appeared on NPR’s Latino USA, NBC Latino, CBS Radio Network, Latino Magazine, and Hispanic Link News Service, among others. A longtime NAHJ member and former president of the D.C. chapter, she is an adjunct professor at American University and Florida International University’s Washington program.
“As a contributor from the very beginning of palabra, I’m proud that we’ve established a platform for our freelance members to build their careers while elevating Latino voices in the media landscape,” Guadalupe said. “I want to see more Spanish-language and multimedia work, expanding the ways palabra tells unique and powerful stories that you won’t see, hear, or read anywhere else.”

Rodrigo Cervantes is an award-winning bilingual journalist and communications strategist with a strong background in international reporting and newsroom leadership. He launched KJZZ’s Mexico City bureau and later served as senior editor at KPCC/LAist. A former NAHJ national secretary, Cervantes has contributed to NPR, CNN, Univisión and The Los Angeles Times, as well as the U.K.’s BBC and Mexico’s Reforma.
“palabra is a space that celebrates what connects us—our cultures, resilience, and unique ways of telling stories,” Cervantes said. “I also envision it growing into a media lab that fearlessly explores new platforms, tools, and storytelling forms that push the boundaries of Latino journalism.”

Together, Guadalupe and Cervantes will lead palabra in commissioning, editing, and publishing high-impact stories in print, video, and audio. Their shared goals include expanding collaborations, developing new reporting talent through NAHJ’s network, and growing palabra’s digital presence and editorial voice.
Launched in 2019, palabra provides NAHJ freelance members with opportunities to publish impactful stories, receive developmental support, and earn competitive rates. Its mission remains rooted in fostering an industry where Latino journalists can achieve a sustainable future while shaping an accurate and honest representation of their communities.
