Washington, D.C. – The National Association of Hispanic Journalists approved two appointments to the vacant regional director position in region 5, as well as an appointment to the national General At-Large position.
“I look forward to serving with the current leadership team in place as we prepare for 2018,” said Brandon Benavides, NAHJ President. “I’m confident the time and talent they dedicate to our mission will better our membership in their regions and our association across the country.”
Mac Perez, a former president of San Antonio Association of Hispanic Journalists, CCNMA and was also a founding member of NAHJ in 1984. Responsible for beginning the first television broadcast seminars at the annual NAHJ convention, Perez will serve as the region 5 director, covering Texas and the surrounding states.
Javier Palmera will be taking his position on the national board as the General At-Large officer. He has over 20 years of experience in local broadcasting. Palmera is currently an executive producer at KBLR, the Telemundo owned station in Las Vegas.
In addition to the two appointments, the board approved Geraldine Cols Azocar’s motion to give Octavio Blanco her proxy as Region 2 Director while she is on maternity leave. Blanco has previously served as president of the New York chapter board and overall has been an active and passionate member of the National Association of Hispanic Journalists.
