NABJ, NAHJ Announce 2020 Convention & Career Fair Theme and Logo
Washington, D.C. – The National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) and the National Association of Hispanic Journalists (NAHJ) have announced their joint 2020 convention theme and logo. The #NABJNAHJ20 Convention & Career Fair will be held July 8-12 at the Washington Marriott Wardman Park in Washington, D.C.
The 2020 theme is “Power of the Past, Force of the Future.” It was selected to highlight the influence and impact both organizations have had throughout their respective histories and calls attention to the important role both groups play in shaping the future of news and media. NABJ was established in December 1975 and NAHJ was established in April 1984.
Leveraging the experience and expertise of veteran members and strategic partnerships, both organizations play a vital role in offering year-round training and development to students and emerging professionals to prepare them for meaningful roles in journalism and communications.
The 2020 theme also speaks to the historic advocacy roles that both organizations have played in fighting for representation for their respective communities, including advocating for access, equity, parity and diversity and inclusion across the news, media and social landscapes.
As the nation heads toward becoming a majority-minority country in just a few years, the voices of Black and Hispanic people must be heard and lifted. The 2020 convention will drive this message home and emphasize that both organizations are a major force in holding news and media companies around the U.S. accountable to ensure newsrooms, studios and boardrooms look like and tell stories that reflect the growing diversity of this country.
