NAHJ President letter on VP of Print Eligibility

Dear NAHJ Members,

I am writing to you regarding the inquiry of lifetime member Vicki Adame and her eligibility to serve as the Vice President of Print on the board of directors of the National Association of Hispanic Journalists (NAHJ). During a special meeting in executive session, the national board voted to remove her from the post.

The Elections Committee’s recommendations were made based on their interpretation of a section of the Bylaws focused on the definition of regular member.

The decision is not one the board took lightly. It comes after the Elections Committee studied the issue, provided recommendations that were presented to the board for discussion, debate and ultimately a vote.

The board’s decision is not a reflection of Ms. Adame’s long commitment to NAHJ.
In addition to being a lifetime member, Adame is the founder and key developer for a strong NAHJ Bay Area chapter and has served as the president of the CUNY student chapter in New York. Formerly, she worked on the NAHJ staff focusing on communications and helped to lead the organization into an extremely successful #NABJNAHJ16 convention.

I want to thank Vicki Adame for her leadership and service over many years to our association.

As always, please feel free to reach out to me with any questions or concerns.

Hugo Balta
President
National Association of Hispanic Journalists (NAHJ)
