Familia,
It is news no one wants to share.
One of our own, a former NAHJ member, was among those killed in the devastating attack in Orlando over the weekend.
Jonathan Camuy, 25, had been an active member in one of our student chapters in Puerto Rico before moving to Florida to work for the Telemundo network.
Jonathan worked on the hit show “La Voz Kids” that airs on the network and is produced in Orlando.
The NAHJ familia is heartbroken and offers our condolences to Jonathan’s family in Florida and Puerto Rico. We also keep his work family at Telemundo in our thoughts and prayers.
As a member of the Comcast NBCUniversal Telemundo family, I can tell you personally the news over the weekend has been difficult for everyone companywide. At least one other employee was fatally shot in the attack as well.
Cesar Conde, Chairman of NBCUniversal Telemundo Enterprises, wrote this today:
“We want to extend our thoughts, prayers and deepest condolences to Jonathan’s family and friends. He was a great assistant producer and had been working with us since “Yo Soy el Artista” and previously at Telemundo Puerto Rico. Most recently, he was working in audience management in the current season of “La Voz Kids.” Jonathan will be missed dearly…”
Please join me in remembering Jonathan and the other victims taken so early in life by a senseless, horrible act.
Con Carino,
Mekahlo Medina
NAHJ President
