The National Association of Hispanic Journalists (NAHJ) acknowledges the news of Jim Acosta’s departure from CNN with a recognition of his significant contributions to journalism and his commitment to holding those in power accountable.
At a time when coverage of America’s Hispanic communities has perhaps never been more vital, it is crucial for news organizations to elevate diverse voices in their reporting.
As news outlets make adjustments to their lineups, NAHJ urges CNN and other media outlets to ensure that the perspectives of Hispanic journalists and the stories of Hispanic communities remain central.
Acosta, the son of Cuban immigrants, has been CNN’s chief national correspondent since 2021 after serving as chief White House correspondent during both the Obama and Trump administrations. Prior to his 18-year career at CNN, he covered the Iraq War and Hurricane Katrina for CBS News. NAHJ honored Acosta with the NAHJ Presidential Award in 2017.
Throughout his career, Acosta has asked tough questions to those in power.
NAHJ applauds journalists, especially Latino journalists, who hold those in power accountable.
