NAHJ convention committee prepares for a dynamic experience at EIJ17
February 13, 2017 – NAHJ President Brandon Benavides has appointed the remaining positions on the national convention committee. NAHJ will join the Radio Television Digital News Association and the Society of Professional Journalists at the Excellence in Journalism Convention in Anaheim, California September 7 – 9, 2017. Early bird registration opens in March.
In December, NAHJ President Brandon Benavides announced that lifetime member and industry leader in the integration of technology and journalism, Robert Hernandez, would serve as the national convention chair. The chair is the NAHJ voting member on the Excellence in Journalism convention with RTDNA and SPJ.
“I’m honored to return to NAHJ conference programming,” said Robert Hernandez. “My goal is to elevate the hands-on training our members need to level up and advance their careers. And our partnerships with the EIJ organization members really help. If I do my job right, we’re having one diverse conference where diversity, digital and journalism are all mixed and mingling. We need to stand together and support each other as we learn and celebrate our successes together.”
The committee members who were selected to join Hernandez to lead in the planning of the conference agenda are:
Maryhelen Campa – Chair, Ñ Journalism Awards Luncheon
Victoria Sanchez De Alba & Noemi Lujan Perez – Co-Chairs, Hall of Fame Gala and Gran Baile
Daniel Morales – Committee Member
Rolando Arrieta – Board Liaison
“I am so proud of the men and women who volunteered to lead our 2017 convention planning,” Brandon Benavides, NAHJ President commented. “We will bring you more training opportunities and hands on workshops that provide value and resource. I also look forward to top-notch events that both honor and inspire our members.”
Committee members are a mixture of long time journalists, NAHJ members and public relations specialists. All of the members are focused on the mission of NAHJ. The committee will work with the NAHJ staff, board, and PR company to ensure a quality experience for guests and focus on fundraising for the association’s next generation. Attendees will see changes and adjustments in the event programming for September’s conference; the annual luncheon will feature this year’s journalism award winners, while the gala welcomes back a sit down dinner and presentation to honor the 2017 Hall of Fame inductees. The return of the traditional Gran Baile to close out the celebration will be open to all convention attendees.
