Nominations are Now Being Accepted for the 2023 NAHJ Hall of Fame Awards
Members, this is your opportunity to nominate an individual for the 2023 NAHJ Hall of Fame. We’re looking for individuals making a difference in support of Latinos in journalism, a person whose coverage of the Latino community rises above the norm or an educator who mentors young emerging Latino journalists. If you have someone in mind, nominate them for an NAHJ Hall of Fame Award.
The Hall of Fame Gala will be held during NAHJ’s International Convention & Career Expo on Saturday, July 15, 2023 at the InterContinental Miami Hotel.
Click here to submit a nomination. The deadline is Friday, April 28, 2023.
Hall of Fame Guidelines
Every year, NAHJ proudly recognizes individuals who have courageously upheld our mission to expand the number of Latinos in newsrooms and improve coverage of Latino communities. These individuals demonstrate a commitment to our profession, paving the way for other Latino journalists. They have practiced journalistic values with distinction while inspiring others to do the same. They have been pioneers, leaders and mentors.
Eligibility: Any journalist is eligible, whether or not they are members of NAHJ. The person also may be in the academic field, demonstrating a commitment to producing outstanding journalists through education. The nominee, or a reasonable representative, must be able to attend the Hall of Fame Gala on Saturday, July 15.
Criteria: Individuals must be nominated by an NAHJ member. Please submit a letter of nomination in 400 words or less stating why the nominee should be inducted into the NAHJ Hall of Fame by detailing their contributions and impact to the field of journalism. You must be a member to complete an application. Click here to join NAHJ.
In addition, the candidate’s résumé, two letters of recommendation and three work samples in English or Spanish must also be included. We recommend work samples be submitted as links in a Word document. Current members of the NAHJ board and staff are ineligible. The awards committee will review the applications and select a group of finalists. Finalists will be presented to the board, which will have full discretion on the selection of inductees.
The candidates will be reviewed on the following areas:
- Career achievement
- Impact
- Character
- Involvement in NAHJ
The Hall of Fame Awards will be presented to the nominees (or a reasonable designee), during the national convention.
