NAHJ Completes Successful 2023 Regional Career Summits

Students from around the US were invited to connect with industry leaders in Los Angeles and New York City, presented by NBCU Academy

The National Association of Hispanic Journalists hosted emerging journalists from across the country to attend its inaugural career summits. The events were hosted by the Columbia Journalism School in the City of New York and the USC Annenberg School for Journalism and Communication in Los Angeles, California.

Students in attendance at both the East Coast Summit (February 11, 2023) and the West Coast Summit (February 25, 2023) had the opportunity to network face to face with recruiters to learn about career opportunities, strengthen communication and interviewing skills, connect with other chapter members, and participate in engaging workshops designed to prepare students to become successful Latino journalists and media professionals.

“The programming included a mix of training sessions geared toward college and early career journalists. Students came up to me to tell me how grateful they are that we brought this training to them. Learning in person is so much more effective for most students, and I’m glad we were able to create the summits for them,” shared Leslie-Anne Frank, Director of Next Gen. Initiatives.

Participating sponsors included NBCU Academy, Deseret Management Corporation, and TEGNA. Additionally, recruiters from NBCU Academy, Gray TV, Spectrum Networks, Paramount, Craig Newmark Graduate School of Journalism, TENGA, Columbia Journalism School, and the University of Southern California were also in attendance.
