NAHJ New Mexico Chapter Social Gathering and Election Training

The NAHJ New Mexico Chapter invites you to join us on October 19 for its fall chapter event – a morning of networking over pan dulce y café, valuable training in handling election misinformation, and a lively discussion of New Mexico election politics by two experts.
Program:
8:30 AM to 9 AM – Breakfast Social
9 AM to 10:15 AM – Workshop for journalists: How to respond to election misinformation
Guest:
Miriam Valverde, Valverde is a deputy editor at PolitiFact. She oversees PolitiFact en Español. Previously, she fact-checked claims about immigration, public policy, and COVID-19 as a PolitiFact staff writer. Miriam led the development and launch of MediaWise en Español, a digital media literacy program that teaches Spanish speakers in the United States how to spot misinformation online. She reported for the South Florida Sun-Sentinel, the Bradenton Herald, the Boston Globe, and a Boston Spanish-language publication, El Planeta. Miriam graduated from Emerson College with a major in journalism and a minor in business studies.

Speakers:
Gabriel R. Sanchez, Dr. Sanchez is a Professor of Political Science, Executive Director of the UNM Center for Social Policy, and Director of the Graduate Program. He is also the Principal at Latino Decisions, which is the nation’s leading survey firm focused on the Latino electorate.
Dan Boyd, Boyd is Capitol Bureau Chief at the Albuquerque Journal.
