Media Law for Journalists: Libel & Invasion of PrivacyÂ
Summary: In this session, you’ll learn about the fundamentals of libel and privacy laws applicable to journalistic content. We’ll discuss what the plaintiff has to prove to make out a libel case, your common law and constitutional defenses, the differences in defending cases brought by public and private figures, and trouble spots such as libelous implications, use of confidential sources and the value of retractions. Lawsuits for publishing truthful but embarrassing private facts will also be considered.
