ESPN Next Production Intern Summer 2024

About the Role & Internship

ESPN Next is the company’s leadership development program focused on video content creation for early-career professionals. This talented group of professionals produces content for ESPN’s family of networks that fans can watch in many different ways.

What You Will Do 

As a Production Intern, you will have the opportunity to gain real-world experience producing different forms of video content for multiple ESPN shows and live events, while also learning about different areas of the business through observations. This internship provides an opportunity to experience many aspects of the Production Assistant role within ESPN Next. You will report to the Manager, ESPN Next and support the team by:

  • Supporting content creation for various properties; including SportsCenter at night, daytime studio shows (i.e. First Take, This Just In, NFL Live etc.) 
  • Screening and logging live games/events for SportsCenter, producing highlights and researching ideas to share
  • Pitching ideas, producing and editing video elements such as VOs, B-rolls and sound for daytime shows 
  • Observing multiple areas of interest at ESPN during a period of the internship
Required Qualifications & Skills  
  • Experience in sports media, preferably in content creation
  • Knowledge of sports, including current athletes and teams
  • Familiarity with server-based media and/or non-linear editing software
  • High level of familiarity with ESPN programming, platforms, and studio shows 
  • Ability to research and pitch story ideas 
  • Ability to work in fast-paced environment that requires assignments to be completed in quick turnaround fashion
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of sports and relevant storylines
  • Passion for creative storytelling
  • Experience with editing video
  • Ability to clearly communicate progress of assigned video elements with team members and producers of shows
  • Familiarity with sports media landscape, including knowledge of business trends and technologies
Eligibility Requirements & Internship Information 
  • Must be enrolled in an accredited college/university taking at least one class in the semester/quarter (spring/fall) prior to participation in the internship program OR must have graduated from a college/university within 6 months at time of application posting OR currently participating in a Disney College Program or Disney Professional Internship
  • Must be at least 18 years of age 
  • Must not have completed one year of continual employment on a Disney internship or program
  • Must possess unrestricted work authorization
  • Must be an NAHJ student member
  • GPA of at least 3.0

Additional Information 

Program Dates: The program dates are June 3rd, 2024 through August 9, 2024. Interns will work 40 hours per week throughout the internship and must be fully available.  

Work Environment: This is an onsite internship based in Bristol, CT at ESPN Headquarters. Subsidized housing will be available at a nearby location for those who qualify. Interns will live in a 1 or 2 bedroom suite with roommates and will be responsible for a weekly housing payment.
