The Mission 

The National Association of Hispanic Journalists (NAHJ) Sports Task Force (STF) strives to provide development and support for student and professional NAHJ members working in all areas of sports media. We also are committed to holding organizations accountable as they pledge to provide more equitable workspaces. 

In partnership with the NAHJ STF, CNN Sports is offering an exciting internship opportunity that will allow the selected candidate to explore the world of sports media, while also tapping into the resources and networks that directly speak to the NAHJ STF mission. In conjunction with the paid internship, the selected candidate will be receiving a $5000 NAHJ STF x CNN Sports. 

The Company 

Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD), a premier global media and entertainment company, offers audiences the world’s most differentiated and complete portfolio of content, brands and franchises across television, film, streaming and gaming. The new company combines WarnerMedia’s premium entertainment, sports and news assets with Discovery’s leading non-fiction and international entertainment and sports businesses.  

The Internship 

CNN Sports is looking for an all-star intern to experience, learn, and assist in sports newsgathering and production for all CNN platforms: TV and digital. We are made up of enthusiastic journalists who produce content airing on CNN's domestic and international television networks, as well as CNN.com. CNN Sports produces CNN International's premier sports show, CNN World Sport, airing multiple times daily. 

The Daily 

• Assist our sports newsgathering team by watching events and press conferences, then alerting key moments and soundbites for the network to use on linear and digital platforms.
• Monitor social media for daily news reactions, statements, and fresh video elements.Provide support to the CNN World Sport show team by creating graphic elements, transcribing interviews, researching stories, and gathering video elements for edit.
• Coordinate daily game recordings by monitoring video quality and router sources.
• Copyedit anchor scripts and network banners.
• Assist with basic administrative and production tasks. 

The Essentials

• Passion for sports and a strong interest in storytelling.
• Successful candidates will demonstrate a knowledge of and active participation in social media as a news tool.
• Excellent communication (written & verbal) and interpersonal skills.
• Detail-oriented and reliable.
• Proficient with Adobe Premiere (or similar) video editing software.
• Knowledge in FIFA Soccer would be a plus. 

Eligibility Requirements 

•  Must be an active NAHJ member
• Must be actively enrolled in an accredited college or university degree program for the full duration of the internship (proof of enrollment required)
• Must be a rising Junior, Senior or enrolled Graduate student (18 years or older)
• Must be in academic good standing (3.0 or above cumulative GPA) A transcript will be required to verify your GPA if an offer is extended.
• Warner Bros. Discovery will only consider candidates who are presently authorized to work for any employer in the United States and who will not require work visa sponsorship from Warner Bros. Discovery now or in the future in order to retain their authorization to work in the United States. Candidates currently on any student or exchange visa, including F-1 CPT, F-1 OPT, J-1, M-1, etc., will not be eligible for the internship program.

And finally, what to know before applying: 

• The duration of the program is 10-12 weeks dependent on the student’s availability based on semester schedule
• Program date options:
  • Start Date: June 2 or June 9
  • End Date: August 15 or August 22
• Interns will be expected to work 40 hours per week in an in-person or hybrid capacity. 
• Our internships are paid opportunities with a competitive hourly wage. Credit is not required; however, we will provide the necessary documentation for school credit if desired. Relocation is not provided. The selected intern will also receive a $5000 NAHJ STF x CNN Sports.
• Interviewing will take place from February through mid-April. A WBD team member will contact you if your experiences and interests match an open internship position. Due to the high volume of applications, we are unable to give individual status updates
