Conducted July 10-13, the sessions are designed to support journalists at all stages of their careers. For example, members can get an introduction to audio recording by capturing the sounds of Hollywood Boulevard in a session by LAist staff, or they can hear from top Latino broadcast executives about overcoming obstacles to leadership.

Election coverage, not surprisingly, appears in session titles across tracks, from “Fact-Checking in the Political Landscape of Presidential Elections and AI” to “Election Reporting in Hostile Environments,” as well as in the description of a session on “Responsibly Reporting on Immigrant Communities,” as immigration is already a major election issue.

In another sign of the times, there is a robust track on Entrepreneurship, from freelancing to grant-writing to launching a digital news startup. In the AI/Emerging Technology track, Nonny de la Peña will explore the evolution of Augmented and Virtual Reality storytelling now millions of headsets are available.

The sessions provided by the various NAHJ Taskforces + Beats provide depth and variety of to the conference. Learn to be a Latina powerbroker in the fast-growing business of covering soccer, how to lead a big LGBTQIA+ enterprise project, or how to edit video like a pro on your smartphone.

Most sessions will be in English though at least nine are in Spanish, and others will be bilingual.

In addition, NAHJ will host a full day of sessions on Tuesday, July 9 that are open to the all local journalists and community members, culminating in a Town Hall Meeting. More info to come.
