Largest Hispanic Journalism Association Launches New Campaign Dedicated to Colleagues Globally
Washington, D.C. (August 4, 2017) – NAHJ (National Association of Hispanic Journalists) has developed and launched a new digital campaign addressing the escalating violence against the press. The association will use the “Ni Uno Más” campaign to bridge a gap and extend efforts to support colleagues in Mexico & Latin America.
Unifying and increasing solidarity to prevent attacks on journalists and their families, threats to press freedom and fight impunity will result in strengthening an overall mission and commitment to the pursuit of truth. Additionally, the association will make a commitment to use their platform creating awareness regarding training, education and top resources available to journalists in need of assistance. NAHJ will launch “Ni Uno Más” with an endorsement of CPJ (Committee to Protect Journalists) and a newfound partnership. Acknowledging the efforts and success of CPJ, both non-profits will collaborate during the campaign to continue the battle against impunity.
The new ads will include stories and testimonials of journalist’s experiences, graphic designs featuring work of Latino visual journalists relevant to press freedom threats and video ads designed for digital platforms. To support and create awareness around the content, the campaign will also include live streamed discussions under the association’s #NAHJLive brand; inclusive of experts and advocates, in addition to the new partnership with CPJ to endorse the committee’s efforts and progressive solutions in assisting journalists. Yesterday’s joint roll out of the ‘Press Freedom Tracker’ will continue to be a component in the “Ni Uno Más” campaign.
“We have always stood by our Latino journalists around the world, but it is not enough to only raise our voice when another attack or murder occurs against one of our colleagues,” commented Brandon Benavides, NAHJ President. “We are the nation’s voice for Latino journalists and through the Ni Uno Más campaign we will create opportunity to better organize, provide support and fight for fair treatment fulfilling the goals of the association.”
The final element to the association’s new campaign will be an action to issue free memberships to working journalists in Latin America and Mexico. In hopes beyond simply showing solidarity, NAHJ will work to give members access to valuable connections, relationships and opportunities in the newsrooms, and a furthered commitment to training and development for the advancement of all Latino journalists.
