National Board Addresses NAHJ Membership Regarding Treatment of Journalist
WASHINGTON, D.C. – The treatment of journalist and NAHJ Member Jim Acosta and the media during President-elect Trump’s press conference is concerning and disappointing. It is overwhelmingly evident that our process and traditions covering an administration are drastically changing.
What we are certain of is that more than ever as journalists we must continue our commitment to our freedom and an unwavering pursuit of truth. We have a duty to hold government accountable and cannot tolerate those that target our journalists who are upholding the First Amendment. However, we are in the beginning of a new world of journalism and all of us together are exploring what is to be expected in the next four years and how to prepare; how as journalists we can be tactical and efficient while approaching a “new normal.”
We face an enormous challenge that we will not be able to find a solution overnight, but proves that we have no choice but to stand together to adapt and innovate. NAHJ continues to stand with journalists everywhere who are simply working to pursue the truth and hold people in power accountable for their statements and their actions.
