MISSION STATEMENT:

NAHJ’s Sports Task Force is committed to empowering Latinx sports journalists by promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion in sports media coverage. Our mission is to amplify underrepresented voices, champion authentic storytelling, and foster a more inclusive and representative sports industry. Through advocacy and collaboration, we strive to create opportunities for Latinx journalists to thrive and make meaningful contributions to the sports media landscape.

Joe Rodriguez is a 3x National Sports Emmy-Award winning professional in the television production and broadcast industry. Born in Guadalajara, Mexico, Rodriguez, the NAHJ Sports Task Force co-chair, has 15+ years of experience producing live studio, remote and field productions at the top level, Joe has line produced for the top sports broadcast companies such as ESPN, Fox Sports, Telemundo, and EA Sports. He currently leads content strategy for Major League Soccer’s MLS NEXT Pro and holds an MBA from UCLA’s Anderson School of Management.

Iliana Limón Romero is the Los Angeles Times’ assistant managing editor for Sports. During her tenure, the sports staff earned prestigious Associated Press Sports Editors grand slam honors. The El Paso, Texas, native is president of the Association for Women in Sports Media and co-chair of the NAHJ Sports Task Force. In 2022, she was named one of the 10 Most Influential Latina Journalists in California by the CCNMA Latino Journalists of California. In 2020, she was presented NAHJ’s Dale Award. Limón Romero is the first woman and first Mexican American to serve as the Los Angeles Times’ sports editor. She is the only Latina sports editor at a major newspaper in the United States.

Samantha Rivera is a bilingual sports journalist (English/Spanish) who currently works as a sports anchor/reporter for CBS Miami. Before the 305, she worked in her hometown as a sports reporter/anchor for NBC5 Chicago, Telemundo Chicago and NBC Sports Chicago. Other career stops include San Diego, Rockford, IL and Marquette, MI. The Chicagoland native is a proud alum of DePaul University, where she earned her bachelor’s degree in journalism and public relations and advertising. Samantha’s also the Region 4 Director of the National Association of Hispanic Journalists and a member of the Sports Task Force.

Ed Guzman is the Los Angeles Times deputy Sports editor. The East Los Angeles native joined the newsroom in October 2022. He most recently served as deputy editor for sports for ESPN’s Andscape and joined The Times after stints at the Oregonian, New York Times, Washington Post and Seattle Times. Guzman is a member of the National Assn. of Hispanic Journalists Sports Task Force board, and also mentors students in the Sports Journalism Institute program.

Danny Corrales is the Head of Video Podcast Production for The Ringer, Spotify. Danny began his career at ESPN as a PA trainee and climbed the ranks to become a leading content creator at the WWL. Danny served as the daily producer of “SportsNation” and “The Jump.” He also hosted a video podcast series for ESPN.com called “No Hablo Español.” In 2019, Danny was nominated for an Outstanding Studio Show Emmy as the lead Producer and co-Creator of “The Jump with Rachel Nichols.” In 2021, Danny joined FuboTV as the EP of Original Content where he oversaw production of “No Chill with Gilbert Arenas.” Danny attended the University of Arizona and was a student manager under Lute Olson.
