Treatment of White House Correspondent Considered Unprovoked and Abusive by NAHJ President
Washington, D.C. –The treatment of ABC News’ senior White House Correspondent and NAHJ Member Cecilia Vega during a White House Rose Garden press conference today was unprovoked and abusive.
The condescending comment was targeted at Vega, a female Latina journalist and is unmistakably evidence to the insufferable treatment of both Latinos and women holistically and in the media. While the media, specifically minority journalist are consistently bullied by this administration, the NAHJ National Board applauds Cecilia Vega for drawing attention to the offensive comment while maintaining professionalism.
It is unacceptable that this kind of treatment towards journalists in the Trump administration is increasingly commonplace. It is a testament to our community of journalists that we are able to endure and succeed in the face of such harassment. NAHJ continues to support and celebrate journalists who fight to find truth and fair treatment in an administration that harbors both away from the public.
