Nov. 14, 2024 – The National Association of Hispanic Journalists (NAHJ) is thrilled to announce that applications are now open for the 2025 ¡PRESENTE! Leadership Program, a part of the NAHJ Adelante Academy. This transformative leadership initiative is designed to empower Hispanic journalists ready to rise as the next generation of news executives.
We encourage applications from a diverse mix of community members, particularly those who are underrepresented, such as Afro-Latinos, DACA recipients, Indigenous Latinos, Latinos with Disabilities, Non-binary Latinos and Trans Latinos. The ¡PRESENTE! Leadership Program seeks candidates who are NAHJ members with over eight years of newsroom experience, including roles in broadcast, digital and print media.
Now in its second year, the program spans six months and includes in-person sessions at Columbia Journalism School in New York City and the NAHJ Annual Conference in Chicago, alongside two virtual phases. Participants will engage with top industry experts, receive mentorship, and develop projects that address significant challenges or opportunities in journalism today.
“Columbia University has been an invaluable partner in creating a transformative program to empower the next generation of Latino news leaders,” said NAHJ Executive Director Yaneth Guillén-Díaz. “Together, we are equipping Hispanic journalists with the skills and networks they need to lead in today’s evolving media landscape.”
Perhaps you’re a newsroom director or manager and want to hone your executive skills. Or a mid-level journalist who regularly takes on leadership roles and wants to land a title that allows you to shape coverage. This program, which is tuition-free, will equip you with the skills, network, and visibility needed to lead effectively in today’s dynamic media environment.
Applications will be accepted through December 16, 2024. Applicants must submit an 800-word essay, work samples, a project overview, and a letter of commitment. If you are not an NAHJ member, you can join before you apply.
Join us in shaping the future of newsrooms with innovative and inclusive leadership. For more information on eligibility and application details, visit NAHJ.org/adelante-academy.
